Dr. Hughes was born and raised in Benton, LA, graduated from Benton High School with honors, and lettered in football, basketball and track. Pre-med studies and a B.S. degree followed at Centenary College. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University School of medicine in New Orleans, LA and graduated with honors. His Pediatric Internship and Residency followed at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Dr. Hughes served 2 years active duty as Chief of Pediatrics at the USPHS Hospital in Norfolk, VA with the rank of Lt. Commander after his training at UTMB.
He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been a practicing Pediatrician in the Shreveport-Bossier area since 1976. Dr Hughes' son, Broox, can be found working in the clinic. His wife, Mary Sorrows Hughes, is an artist and her work is displayed through the office. Dr. Hughes has a special interest in Lionel electric trains, singing the church choir with Mary and a recent gift of an electric guitar.
Dr. Hughes is joined in his Practice by his two Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Jennifer Patton (25 Years) and Kenda Brotherton (15 Years) and by Dr. Lauren Milder, former patient and current Board Certified Associate (10 Years). All of us realize how precious our patients are to their families and we consider it an honor to provide a home for their personal medical care.
